About the role

Position Title: Engineering Summer Vacation Student Internship 2026-27

Location: Melbourne, VIC 

 

Key Responsibilities

Primary duties and expectations of the role:

 

  • Assist more senior engineers with tasks related to design, analysis, studies, modelling, implementation, verification, and support of systems.
  • Engage in the execution of R&D projects.
  • Develop the ability to identify, formulate, and solve basic engineering problems, applying your theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios.
  • Under supervision, ensure the completeness, accuracy, quality, and orderliness of your work.
  • Perform tasks and responsibilities in line with agreed objectives.
  • Ensure tasks are carried out with precision, accuracy and adherence to prescribed methods of analysis, design or computation, utilising advanced techniques and methods learned during your undergraduate studies
  • Learn to communicate effectively through engineering drawings, models, documentation, and report descriptions, ensuring clarity and precision in your work.
  • Practice and improve report writing skills, ensuring that documentation meets professional standards and contributes to project success.
  • Adhere to appropriate standards, codes of practice, and company processes and procedures, understanding the importance of maintaining compliance in all engineering activities.
  • Utilise computer-based tools and techniques for analysis and modelling, gaining an understanding of the scope and limitations of models and simulations.

 

Your work will be reviewed by more senior level engineers for accuracy, validity, and adherence to established methods and procedures. As you gain experience and further professional development, you will gradually exercise more individual judgment, leading to less oversight and review of your projects, progressing toward the competency level expected of a Level 1 Engineer.

 

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Currently undertaking a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons), or equivalent, in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • A strong academic record.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong ability to work both independently and with a team.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, demonstrating accuracy, thoroughness, and timeliness in all tasks.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and work across different engineering disciplines.

 

Desirable

  • Proven analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Experience working in team‑based or project environments
